Many people equate the need for an eye examination with replacing their
eyeglasses or contacts. While it's certainly important to see
well, undesirable changes in your eyes can occur which do not adversely
affect vision in the early stages. Unlike the rest of your body, your
eyes rarely hurt when something is wrong. Do not rely on changes in your
vision or broken glasses to remind you of your next appointment. Follow
the advice of experts, and have your eyes examined on a regular basis.
Patients should be advised to seek eye care more frequently than
the recommended re-examination interval if new ocular, visual,
or systemic health problems develop. In addition, the optometrist
may recommend more frequent re-examinations of certain patients at
risk. Such patients include those with diabetes, hypertension, or
a family history of glaucoma; those working in occupations that are
highly demanding visually or eye hazardous; those taking prescription
or nonprescription drugs with ocular side effects; and those with
other health concerns or conditions. (From AOA Clinical Practice
Guideline)

Your Vision Source doctor will use several instruments and
procedures to evaluate the health of your eyes. With the
ophthalmoscope your doctor can actually see inside your eye
to check for cataracts, retinal problems and evidence of systemic
diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Your eye examination consists of various tests to evaluate
the health of your eyes and if need be, determine what vision
correction method is best for you - our aim is to give you the best possible vision. If your vision requires specialist treatment, your Vision Source doctor will refer you to the appropriate specialist.
Vision Source doctors and their staff are committed to providing
excellence in eyecare. Our doctors are constantly investing
in new 'high tech' instrumentation to allow them to serve you better. For example, many Vision Source doctors have equipment, which enables them to photograph both the back and front of the eye, through retinal fundus photography and slit-lamp imaging systems.
